New restrictions in the fight against the coronavirus in Poland. Key information

At a press conference on Thursday 9 April 2020 in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki informed about the extension of restrictions implemented in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Please find below a list of regulations.

Restrictions valid until 19 April:

  • Leaving your house should be kept to an absolute minimum and the distance from other pedestrians should be at least 2 metres.
  • Children and young people under the age of 18 cannot leave the house unattended. Only the presence of a parent, a guardian or an adult justifies their presence outside.
  • The activity of shopping malls except for, among others, food industry, medical and pharmaceutical products, pet food–is limited. On weekends, the large building supplies stores will be closed.
  • All cultural institutions remain closed. These include museums, art galleries, theatres, philharmonics, operas, cinemas, film clubs, libraries, archives.
  • All hairdressers, beauty salons, tattoo and piercing shops are closed. These services will not be available either outside the salons and shops.
  • Entering parks, forests, beaches, boulevards, promenades and using city bikes is prohibited.
  • All restaurants, cafés and bars can only provide take-away and delivery services. Serving meals on-site is prohibited.
  • The number of customers is limited: a maximum of 3 persons per cash register at a shop or at a stand at the market, a maximum of 2 persons per customer service desk at the post office. Senior citizen hours are from 10:00 to 12:00.
  • On a bus, tram or subway only half the seats can be occupied. Preferably–one of two seats should be left empty.
  • Restrictions on religious events–churches can accommodate up to 5 persons. This rule also applies at Easter.

Decisions relating to the national education system:

  • The dates for the eighth-grade and secondary school final exam will be postponed. The specific dates of these exams will be announced at least 3 weeks before the date of the exams.
  • The activities of crèches, children’s clubs and kindergartens are suspended until 26 April. All schools and universities are closed. Classes take place remotely.

Other restrictions imposed by the Polish government in the fight against the coronavirus:

  • Restrictions on Poland’s external borders–suspended air traffic and international rail traffic (until 26 April).
  • Restrictions on crossing the Polish borders by foreigners (until 3 May).
  • Until 3 May, the following quarantine rules apply: you cannot leave your home during the 14-day quarantine. Quarantine also applies to members of the households.
  • Until further notice, all gatherings, meetings or events of more than 2 persons are prohibited. This restriction does not apply to meetings with your nearest and dearest. Workplaces are excluded.
  • From Thursday 16 April 2020 until further notice, pedestrians should cover their mouth and nose when going outside, walking, as well as in public offices, shops, places of service, workplaces.
